Accessibility statement
In short: this site aims to work for everyone, including people who use a keyboard, a screen reader, zoom, or high-contrast settings. If something gets in your way, email seb@sebgowerart.com and we will fix it or send you the information another way.
Our goal
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, and level AAA where it makes sense. That includes high-contrast text, large tap targets, and nothing that times out.
What we have built in
- Everything works with a keyboard. The first Tab key press offers a link to skip to the main content, and focus is always clearly outlined.
- Body text has a contrast ratio of at least 7 to 1 against the background.
- Buttons and links in menus are at least 44 by 44 pixels.
- Pages reflow to a single column at 320 pixels wide, which is the same as 400% zoom, without sideways scrolling.
- Animations stop if your device asks for reduced motion. Glass and blur effects are removed if it asks for reduced transparency.
- Windows High Contrast and other forced-colour modes are supported. If your device asks for more contrast, muted text becomes full strength.
- Text can be spaced out with browser tools or extensions without anything being cut off.
- Every painting has a written description of what is visible in it.
- Live painting replays have captions in the YouTube player where YouTube provides them, and a written transcript where one exists. Videos only load when you press play.
- Sound never plays by itself. The home reel can play with the sound off. Pause, play and unmute are buttons. The current clip is numbered, not marked by colour alone. If your device asks for reduced motion, that reel stays on a still until you press play. The studio playlist stays off until you press play.
Known limits
- Captions and transcripts come from YouTube's automatic captions and may contain errors. Nine replays have no transcript yet.
- Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and Spotify players come from those services. We cannot fully control how accessible they are. Each one has a direct link to view it on the original site instead.
- The Learn page is a standalone interactive book with its own layout.
- Checkout happens on Shopify at shop.sebgowerart.com.
- Painting descriptions describe what can be seen. They do not identify people.
